Under the sponsorship of OIL INDIA Ltd, and academic mentorship of Mr. Abhyanand, IPS project UTKARSH SUPERB 30 Guwahati Centre was established with strength of 30 students.

The selection of these students was done under two phases firstly a written test of three hours in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics was conducted at, Guwahati, Jorhat ,Dibrugarh, Itanagar, & Tezpur. Out of 223 students who participated in the written examination only 59 could make it to the interview. The interview was conducted at Guwahati which was conducted personally by Mr Abhayanand, IPS.

The centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Tarun Gogai on 12th July 2010. The function was attended by the Chairman Shri N.M.Borah and all the other board members. The students came from a background where the only option for studies was in Assam, as they could not afford the travel and coaching expenses of other States, and hence either they could have passed from any local college or would have got involved in activities which would lead them to disaster. Thus for them UTKARSH SUPERB 30 has come as a weapon to fight the obstacles of life and aim for winning, which is a dream for them. The local teaching faculties for these students were selected keeping in view the language constraint and understanding. They come from rich academic background from IIT Guwahati and IIT Chennai, and adding to it their vast experience in teaching. To better understand the student’s mindset, few final year students of IIT visit the students on weekends and discuss their doubts.
